Bohemians vs Drogheda United Preview

A couple of years ago, the match between the Bohemians and Drogheda United used to be a derby, as the two teams were competing for the title. Much has changed and this season the two opponents would be happy enough to finish in the first half of the standings, with the top priority being to avoid relegation. They are tied at 25 points each and a draw tonight wouldn't be the worst-case scenario, as both of them would consolidate their position.

Bohemians vs Drogheda United Tips

The Bohemians prospered throughout June and in the first half of July, but since then nothing seems to be going their way. July has been absolutely miserable and their winless streak extended into August, with the team being shut down in all three games so far. Two of those matches resulted in clear defeats against Derry City and Shamrock Rovers, but the scoreless draw against UCD was equally frustrating.

The hosts are in dire need of scoring in front of their fans and tonight they will use the opportunity of playing against an archrival, to play some offensive football. It's been a while since the Bohemians used three strikers, with Beattie and Byrne being usually paired up, but tonight they are expected to be joined by Corcoran.

The 25-year-old striker has the best ratio when it comes to goals scored, finding his way to the net eight times in 16 games. Against this offensive trident, the visitors will need to double their defensive efforts and use a starting formation similar to the one that took on Dundalk.
O'Brien and O'Neill will probably play upfront together, as they are Drogheda United's most effective strikers, with a combined 14 goals this season. The problem is that both of them have surpassed the 30-year-old barrier by several years and are unlikely to play at the same level for 90 min.

Key Facts

  • The Bohemians have the worst home record of all teams, with a single victory in 11 games
  • Overall, the Bohemians won 14 times in front of their fans, while Drogheda United won just four of the head-to-head games.

Bohemians vs Drogheda United Prediction

Given their terrible percentage at home in 2014, the Bohemians are overpriced by bookmakers, who expect them to falter once again. Drogheda United had a nice run over the last two weeks, but they are still trying to patch up their shaky defense and against a 4-3-3 starting formation, the visitors are unlikely to hold under pressure.
